„2024 will be great!“
I wrote that down as a wild vision and incentive last year. And then at some point you sit there and it's quiet, not hectic, not much to do. The alarm bells start ringing. Can that be? And a guilty conscience creeps in when you hear about other people working late into the evening. Is that ok?
On the other hand, we are always told that we need breaks to relax. That's when creativity comes back to life. But sometimes it's difficult to endure these breaks and enjoy these moments of relaxation and creative phases. The thought is simply there: is there enough to run the business?
What happens if I change my perspective? I'm actually having a great year, even if not every single day!

- My ‘Water Sensitive Cities’ assessment for the EU Urban Agenda was a huge ride, which I rocked despite having already booked and then indeed enjoyed a month's holiday with my family in New Zealand. On top, there seems to be a lot of interest from cities and other stakeholders in the current call for Thematic Partnerships.
- HDE-Adapt is another big project together with my colleagues from the German Retail Association. Two years ago, I would never have thought that we would end up advising even the larger companies - such as Raiffeisen Waren GmBH, Tchibo, the Textile Alliance - directly on their options for adapting to the consequences of climate change and how all this can be linked to CSRD and EU taxonomy. More will come up by the end of the year. I really hope the interest continues in 2025.
- A climate adaptation concept for the city of Anklam - new partners and new collaborations. We have now gained momentum with the climate risk analysis. It's good for me to practically go through the complete process.
- The same applies to the climate adaptation planning for ZenJA in Langen, the centre for young and old in my neighbouring town. It is very refreshing to work with these committed employees and management in a very concrete way.
- Then, there is the UBA project ‘NatürlichKlimaanpassung’, in which I am working with colleagues from the Ecologic Institute with which we want to accelerate the application of nature-based solutions for climate resilience by municipalities.
- And let's not forget the fantastic, highly innovative GreenQuays project in Breda, which I have had the honour of supporting over the last 4 years. The quays have now been built and are now the blueprint for further sections of the reopened river. A great project completion, and the highly positive feedback from the team on my contribution made me proud.

It doesn't look that bad after all. No, actually it looks really good! 🙂
